About Brisbane.
Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, is a subtropical city that straddles
the Brisbane River. With mild
winters and warm-to-hot summers, Brisbane is one of the best cities in
Australia for visitors who enjoy the outdoors and want to do some site-seeing of
popular landmarks. It also provides easy access to the attractions of the
Sunshine Coast to the north and the Gold Coast to the south, plus the nearby islands
to the east. Here is some Brisbane tourist information.
Brisbane's Climate.
Brisbane enjoys a sub-tropical climate with dry winters and rainy summers. Summer (Dec to Feb) average temperatures are 22ºC
to 30ºC and in winter (June to Aug) 12ºC to 24ºC. Summer rains are often in
the form of mild storm rain in the afternoons. Humidity can be high in summer and
can cause
some discomfort for the first few days. If undertaking any outdoor tours, ensure
you wear a hat and apply sunscreen.

Many visitors arrive in Brisbane via the
international or domestic terminals at the airport via discounted
airfares . Travelling into the city can
be via the Airtrain - cost is $9 to the city or $18 to the Gold Coast. Full

Alternatively you can catch a bus for about the same price. A taxi to the city
is approximately $25. If you are starting a journey from Brisbane airport, you
can also hire a car from one of the car rental companies.
Travel around Brisbane is easy via
a good train network, buses (including the free red bus that navigates the
CBD)
and on the wonderful Citycats that travel the Brisbane River.

There is plenty to keep tourists occupied in Brisbane and
surrounds.
Located at the heart of Brisbane
you’ll find the main shopping precinct, Queen Street Mall.
Featuring outdoor cafes and many specialty shops, the mall is a popular
venue day and night for locals and visitors alike. The Conrad International Treasury
Casino is located at the western end of the mall, while to the South is the
Botanical Gardens.
A popular destination in Brisbane
is Southbank Parklands, located across the river from the CBD. Built on the 1988
Expo site, the Parklands feature gardens, walkways, swimming in the clear lagoon
and many good eateries. Many days parts of the Parkland are packed with
colourful market stalls selling a wide range of handcrafted and unusual items.
Access is via foot over one of the many bridges, via train or bus. Close to
Southbank is a Maritime Museum, Brisbane's Art Gallery and Museum. Also close by
is the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Just on the western fringe of the
CBD and close to Roma St Railway Station is the Roma Street Parklands, 16
hectares of subtropical garden. There are free guided walks. Access is via the
concourse at Roma Street Station or from Albert Street.
In the Brisbane region are many
popular attractions including Dreamworld
on the nearby Gold Coast, or join a day trip from Brisbane to the Crocodile Hunter's
Australia Zoo
on the Sunshine Coast.
Dining in Brisbane can be enjoyed at a number of restaurants and
outdoor eateries. Most city pubs offer a good meal while there is a cluster of
restaurants around the "Eagle St Wharf", plus some great dining
locations at Southbank.
