About Brisbane.

Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, is a subtropical city that straddles the Brisbane River. With mild winters and warm-to-hot summers, Brisbane is one of the best cities in Australia for visitors who enjoy the outdoors and want to do some site-seeing of popular landmarks. It also provides easy access to the attractions of the Sunshine Coast to the north and the Gold Coast to the south, plus the nearby islands to the east. Here is some Brisbane tourist information.

Brisbane's Climate.

Brisbane enjoys a sub-tropical climate with dry winters and rainy summers. Summer (Dec to Feb) average temperatures are 22ºC to 30ºC and in winter (June to Aug) 12ºC to 24ºC. Summer rains are often in the form of mild storm rain in the afternoons. Humidity can be high in summer and can cause some discomfort for the first few days. If undertaking any outdoor tours, ensure you wear a hat and apply sunscreen.

Brisbane tourist activities.

There is plenty to keep tourists occupied in Brisbane and surrounds.

Located at the heart of Brisbane you’ll find the main shopping precinct, Queen Street Mall.  Featuring  outdoor cafes and many specialty shops, the mall is a popular venue day and night for locals and visitors alike. The Conrad International Treasury Casino is located at the western end of the mall, while to the South is the Botanical Gardens.

A popular destination in Brisbane is Southbank Parklands, located across the river from the CBD. Built on the 1988 Expo site, the Parklands feature gardens, walkways,  swimming in the clear lagoon and many good eateries. Many days parts of the Parkland are packed with colourful market stalls selling a wide range of handcrafted and unusual items. Access is via foot over one of the many bridges, via train or bus. Close to Southbank is a Maritime Museum, Brisbane's Art Gallery and Museum. Also close by is the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Just on the western fringe of the CBD and close to Roma St Railway Station is the Roma Street Parklands, 16 hectares of subtropical garden. There are free guided walks. Access is via the concourse at Roma Street Station or from Albert Street.

In the Brisbane region are many popular attractions including Dreamworld on the nearby Gold Coast, or join a day trip from Brisbane to the Crocodile Hunter's Australia  Zoo on the Sunshine Coast.
